Commercial airlines serve the following airports near Yellowstone National Park. The airports are listed in the order we consider the best choices to fly into for price and access to the park. All of our proposed itineraries are based on travel into Billings, MT because so many people choose to come through Billings. However, it is easy to drive or fly into other towns and modify our itineraries.
Billings, Montana(BIL)- Approximately 120 miles NE of park. Airport is open year round, and is the largest airport in the region serving a population of over 100,000. It is served by: Delta, United, Allegiant Air, Frontier, Horizon Air, Skywest, and Great Lakes airlines. The Billings, Montana airport consistently has the most competitive pricing, and it is 65 miles from Red Lodge, MT on easy roads which is the start(or end) of the Beartooth Highway and is a must see for all visitors to the area. Also, while Billings may not have any attractions directly in town, there are several historical attractions nearby, and Billings is the ONLY city in the region with a complete set of major chain stores and restaurants that allow for cost effective last minute shopping before heading out. Lastly, due to the size of the community the airport also has the most options and most competitive pricing for rental cars.
The next three airports we list are to be considered equal, as they are all equal distance (approximately) from the park, except West Yellowstone (which is not open all year.) These airports tend to be a little more expensive with less flight and rental car options because they serve much smaller populations.
Cody, Wyoming (YRA)- Approximately 60 miles E of park. Airport is open all year. It is served by: Delta and United airlines.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming (JAC)- Approximately 60 miles S of park. Airport is open all year. It is served by: American, Delta, and United airlines.
West Yellowstone, Montana (WYS) – Located adjacent to the West Entrance. It is served by: Skywest Airlines. It is only open June through September.
The last two options are both further from the park, making them less convenient than the last group. Just like the previous group, these airports tend to be a little more expensive with less flight and rental car options because they serve much smaller populations.
Bozeman, Montana (BZN)- Approximately 90 miles N of park. Airport is open all year. It is served by: Alaska, Allegiant Air, Delta, Frontier, Horizon Air, United, US Airways airlines.
Idaho Falls, Idaho (IDA)- Approximately 110 miles SW of park. Airport is open all year. It is served by: Allegiant Air, Delta, and United airlines.
